ANDREW GLASS - Founder, Managing Director
Andrew is a proven innovative business leader & builder across a range disciplines, with focus on commodities.
Andrew has a diverse career in international commodities for over 25 years. He has been posted in four continents, in a variety of disciplines with a range of trading & financial organisations leading and developing businesses creating sustainable value in varied products and services.
He has previously worked in AgriCommodities, with senior roles at large trading houses such as Bunge, Noble and Mercuria. As Head of Asian Agri Sales and Trading at ANZ Bank, Andrew developed his finance structuring skills and developed a detailed understanding of how structured finance solutions combined with our Risk Management tools could provide robust solutions for Commodity Traders, regardless of the commodity. He then moved into Clarkson as the Director - Global Bulk Commodities, applying his practical Agritrading experience combined with his Banking skills to a new commodity, finding that there was great opportunity for Risk Management Solutions in the Bulk Commodities space that had been addressed years earlier in AgriCommodities.
With this, Andrew started Avatar Commodities in 2015, manifesting his philosophy and idea of applying the learnings of AgriCommodity Trading to Bulk Commodities and other Mining & Metals Commodities. This concept and opportunity was immediately captured by Anglo American and their Marketing Business Unit, where Andrew established the Ferrous Trading Desk for Anglo American. He successfully designed, built and delivered significant change and value for Anglo American primarily in risk mitigation. He then joined them as Head of Ferrous Trading (physical and financial), leading evolution for a sustainable physical and financial trading business driving growth as an innovative producer. During this time Andrew provided benefits to not only Anglo American, but also the Bulk Commodity Industry with the development of the High Grade 65% Fe Derivatives at SGX and completed the first producer transaction on the Dalian Commodity Exchange.
Andrew has since completed his assignment at Anglo American and is continuing on his journey of leveraging decades of wide ranging commodity experience to assist clients recognise, quantify & stabilise their commodity exposures. He has developed many high performance teams, there is significant qualitative value in this journey for clients' people also. He is a passionate advocate of leading positive evolution in commodity markets.
As part of Andrew's believe in given where you can, he is a mentor with WIMAR SG (Women in Mining and Resources - Singapore) and Protégé Asia, as well as a dedicated children's Rugby Union coach and avid surf life saver training Nippers most weekends.
